Does anyone know of any other medication apart from prednisone that you can take for asthma? As been on high doses for a year and developing Cushing symptoms. Many thanks. Claire

Alternative to steroids
Hi, Presuming you see an asthma specialist and are on all the usual inhalers etc but not knowing what type of asthma you have ....you may be suitable?? For one of the newer treatments such as xolair or Mepolizumab. These can reduce the need for prednisolone( in certain types of asthma)but are used alongside inhalers. Have a look on the asthma uk website which has loads of info on new treatments. Steroids are lifesaving but the side effects are horrid!
I am again just been discharged from hospital today.. 5 th time I have been admitted with infections and asthma. But it's apparently this time my asthma is not controlled properly. I have also proved positive for rheumatoid Arthritis as they have done lots of tests and waiting for results as that apparently can affect your lungs. I have not really got a proper diagnosis just asthma not under control. But been on 40 mg steroids with few short breaks for a year and I have put weight on and moon face etc...Pleased to knot there's other drugs so I could mention at my follow up appointment with respiratory. Many thanks Claire
I feel for you- so frustrating, sometimes life’s just not fair. Many years ago methotrexate was mentioned to reduce the pred but never given, for which I’m glad.
I guess the pred helps your arthritis though I’m very ignorant about treatments for this.
