Hello, I have been trying to find an article relating to things to avoid post asthma attack with my child's grandparents to better educate them for example, taking them out in the cold weather for fresh air is actually going to make their symptoms worse not better. Has anyone seen anything like this they could share with me?

Hi a great tip in this cold weather is to make the child wears a loose scarf around their nose and mouth. This will ensure that s/he only breathes in warm air. Cold air can set off an asthma attack. x

I think laying it out what you want and what you don't want is the best way my little one has two family members (nana and aunt) that look after her while me and my Mrs work

We tell them what's a no go and what's ok.. When she's well one of the family takes her swimming when she's not well (asthma wise) we would rather she not go swimming (especially while it's cold outside)

Sometimes we ask would they mind her at ours so she doesn't have to go out and to give her,her inhaler every x hours... those are usually the times we writr all important medical details and contact numbers down (just in case she takes a turn for the worse while we aren't there)

The trouble with asthma is that it is very subjective, what will make one person worse will not affect another. You might impose unnecessary don’ts and also miss some, some sufferers don’t always know themselves. I suppose the point I am trying to make is, don’t give your child a complex about asthma, it can be a pain in the butt, but you can live with it, be positive and try to get your child and grand parents to be aware of what makes him/her worse, and be aware that these things could change and new ones pop up at any time.

Hello. I’ve found lots of useful info on the asthma UK website, but as many people have said, asthma can be quite a varied thing, especially when it comes to triggers. For me, I actually find warm air a problem and cold fresh air actually improves my breathing! (Sorry if this gives you some doubt and perhaps I’m an anomaly!) I have to keep away from pollen and allergies, so knowing my asthma is allergic is very useful.

Hopefully you can find out more info specific to your child’s asthma and pass as much as possible on to their grandparents. Let them know as much as possible and hopefully they will be mindful of potential triggers.
