I have been on mepolizumab injection for 7 months but during those months I have had two asthma exacerbation requiring a few weeks of prednisilone. Feel a bit disappointed given that I was given to understand that This new medication would improve my asthma condition. Would appreciate comments from people taking mepolizumab. Thanks

Hi, I'm sorry I don't know anything about mepolizumab, and hope someone else will come along that does. I'm picking up on your exacerbations and treatment by steroids for several weeks and wondering how many weeks you were on the steroids and what kind of strength? The reason I am asking is that I am in the middle of an exacerbation, but only seeing limited (but nevertheless gradual) improvement on the steroids, and was wondering how long and how gradually you improved? In case I am just a very slow case, rather than a steroid resistant one, which is my worry.

Thanks for your reply. My usual dose is 35 mg daily for two weeks and my condition improves but there are times when I have to take the same dose for an extra week.

Hi Josephone, I too have had 7 injections now. I was told that I would still need steroids sometimes but I think the criteria for continuing involves a reduction in number and severity of attacks.

So far, I’ve not needed any high doses of steroids, as opposed to monthly flare ups, but I think I may be about to need my first rescue dose.

Hope this helps
