Lungs don't like humidity

Hi

What tips can you give please for coping with humidity on hols?

After 6 days of high humidity & heat I feel at my wits end. I've been coughing a lot after spending any time outside, hardly sleeping so have woken up last few mornings early with migraines which I've been sick with. Today I've decided to stay in with air con on & don't want to venture out, I'm on hols with family & have 3 days of this to go.

( I have hay fever & asthma- pollen count is low here in Majorca)

Thank you in advance x

You have my every sympathy with the migraines - on top of it all. I can only suggest you do as little as possible and just go out in the evening when it is cooler. See this as time to rest - it is better to rest without pain than with, after all, and you might be fretting that you are not doing the stuff you feel you ought to do on holiday, which will make any illness worse. Usual info about keeping hydrated and so on works. If you have an asthmatic cough, use the salbutamol inhaler. If you don't know why you cough, talk to a pharmacist - they are usually very helpful and have a reasonable grasp of English.

And think of us here in the UK in the rain. :)

Hi Chrissie,

Thanks very much for your positive reply, it helps having support from people who know how it feels 🙂 I'm going to concentrate on resting next few days as scorching after cooler day today. Have even put two loads if washing on which I've usually frowned upon on holiday before. Looking forward to going home Wednesday even if it's raining, in fact I love the rain 🍸

I really do sympathize - my lungs react really badly to heat and humidity and breathing becomes a real battle. I end up using Ventolin more ad more to try and combat the breathlessness but it only works for an hour or two before I have to use it again. Like Chrissie, I can only suggest that you rest as much as possible and go out in the evening when its cooler. I try to do anything that I really need to in the morning before it gets to hot and again in the evening if I am not too tired. Role on autumn!

Thank you Ros for your tips, it's really constricting isn't it. I went with my family but spent most of the time inside, although we all went to the beach @ 8.30 am and swam in the sea - it was magical!! I don't intend on going to the Med in August ever again though.
