When i am at home in my own bed I am constantly breathless & on Steroids (Asthma & COPD) away from home or in the spare room i am fine. Could i be allergic to my gel topped mattress?

Maybe why not google it and have a look if it's possible? Do you use different bedding in the spare room? For example if you usually have a feather mattress that can cause breathing problems in asthmatics. So can an old mattress which could be full of dust mites. Or the pillows? They really harbour dust mites so they should either be washed or replaced every 6 months of less. Bedding should always be washed at at least 60 degrees other dust mites aren't killed and these are a common trigger for those suffering from breathing difficulties. I hope you find some answers.

When I read your post I did a google search and while I didn't find anything about gel topped mattresses, I did find quite a lot about memory foam ones (and pillows). These can give off a bad smell due to the retardents and chemicals used in them and can cause reaction in sensitive people.

Any chance you have a dust mite infestation in the room? Think all angles and all routes - try an anti allergy spray like the febreeze one I added some cedarwood essential oil to mine for extra umpf!

Thank you all. I have since done some research on google & came up with the same as lilaclil. Very fastidious regarding bedding etc but might just invest in a special bug cover that completely covers the mattress.
