Painkillers

My doctor has put me on a low dose of cocodamol for arthritis in my hands but it has affected my breathing. He said it was okay to take them with asthma but I am not so sure! Anyone else on painkillers and does it affect your asthma?

Painkiller which affect my asthma are Ibuprofen, Paracetamol, Diclofenac and Aspirin. I only take Novalgin and it works. So you have to look wich painkillers you can take. Hope find soon some that not affect your asthma.

Best wishes

Hi, I only react to the anti inflammatory painkillers, which is how most asthmatics react and why your doctor said you would be ok, but if in doubt go back to the doctor. Has anything else changed in your like to trigger the asthma? New fabric conditioner, candles, aerosols etc??

Good luck.

I am in a lot of pain which is causing me quite a lot of anxiety so maybe that is why my asthma is worse. I try not to take no more than 3 a day but they do make me feel drowsy but it does help the pain xx

Stress is a known trigger, I try to relax and do anything which will take my mind off the symptoms and it works to an extent. Good luck

Aspirin and Ibruprofin are most definitely, contra-indicated for asthmatics, and should be avoided, including any medicines containing these drugs. Paracetamol, codine and tramadol are safe. Cocoda molecular should be safe as it is a combination of paracetamol and codine. Main side effect I found, is constipation.

I have Arthritis and taken co-codamol and not seen this has an effect for my asthma. I'm taken now stronger drugs and at present this is the same effect.

I was given co-codamol not so long ago and it affected my breathing, too. You would most likely be fine with just the codeine but ask your doc about that :)

More painkillers effect Asthmatics than in years past - if your Asthma is at a - 'Twitchy' - easily irritated and your Bronchial Airways are tight and you have a level of Anxiety then not just painkillers but other Med's could affect you - This particular drug I am told - I do not know personally so do not take my response based on my personal experience - but - from 3 fellow sufferers - they felt it took longer to dissolve into the blood stream and set of a mini - attack - What I call - a Asthma Spasm

Call your Asthma nurse specialist or contact your Consultant for advice - I believe that long term Asthmatic's - Bronchictics - COPD patient's should only be prescribed new and/or adjusted Med's via the consultant - Not the G P. Best Wishes John

Ps - quite poorly at the moment so not a lot of info about me yet

I use the 40 mins of my nebuliser treatment to go on line

Hi. I take Dihydrocodeine regularly. I haven't noticed any impact on my asthma. It will be interesting to hear what other people say.

Hi, I have asthma which was brought on by Beta-Blockers (which I had for heart complaint) and has not gone away. I also have co-codamol (30/500) prescribed for arthritis, but do not appear to have any effect on the asthma

I definitely don't take cocodamol - I am allergic to it along with asprin and Ibrufin. The only thing I take is paracetamol. I can't even take fish oil because I am allergic to that.

Not sure what to recommend really but I hope you find some alternative.
