So as well as being on Qvar and Fostair my consultant has put me on Spiriva. Anyone else use this? The nurse at my surgery said she hadn't heard of anyone being on this amount of preventer before for asthma.
(I'm also on montelukast and 40mg of preds)

That's something to research on how much medication you are in. My doctor try to get me on Adair...once I research it...I got scared of it because of the side affects compare to others that are milder or safer.
I use qvar, ventolin , neb if I need it and preds on Smokey days. I try to take a lot of natural stuff to stay away from medication. I hate them but we have to take them to breath. I do I lot of research to find something that helps with our condition. There is so much out there and we have to be careful on scams and truth. But there is a lot we can take to help us.

I would definitely be worried about being on that amount of medication. Have you been referred to a Chest Consultant at the hospital? Maybe it is time to get a second opinion as I know I would. Doctors do not know everything and are not always right!
It's my consultant at the hospital who has put me on all this medication. And if I'm honest so far it's not making much difference i still need my reliever at least every 2 hours. The only time I get any kind of relief is if I get given nebuliser. I'm usually better for a few hours then. (There was talk about having one at home but that seems to have stopped now)
I know they say 10 puffs of ventolin through a spacer is the same as Nebs but Ot doesn't seem to have anywhere near the same effect.
I think I'm going to ask if I can be referred else where
What sort of asthma have you got? I have asthma because of allergies eg grass/tree pollen and antihistamines do help. I was told to have a antihistamine tablet every day which may help you xx
Hi yeah I take spiriva had it a while now I get on with ok it's slow acting I find I get a dry mouth with it but it's ok it does help me sort of
Hi, I'm on a similar amount of meds as you from cons including Spriva. It is a long acting drug which is similar to atrovent. When I started it a few years ago it wasn't licensed for asthma as it is mainly a COPD drug but I respond well to atrovent nebs. I think it is the least effective med I take but really struggled when I stopped it (approved by cons). I have recently changed from the handihaler to the respmat and took it to my asthma nurse as I wasn't sure I was using it properly. She couldn't help as she had never seen it before! I am in a similar situation to you with nebs too - I get a much better result with them than with an inhaler (despite using a spacer) and was going to have them at home (I have a very old nebuliser that I had as a child which I have used in the past). Apparently My asthma is too unpredictable to have them (under the thinking I should be in hospital if I need them as I suddenly decline) but not bad enough to need them in an emergency (I do live minutes from a hospital). I am currently being reviewed in a difficult asthma clinic which is a multidisciplinary team with access to more in the way of testing etc. This was due to the number of meds I was on and emergency admissions to hospital. I would recommend this route if it is offered.
I have been taking spiriva for a couple of months now and have found it really helpful, I was really struggling before I started taking it, I also take alot of other medications for my asthma so maybe its also a combination of everything.

Thanks for all your input, I have found my symptoms are better with the spiriva added, Still need to take a lot of ventolin but (without being gross) I'm not coughing as much up I'm just wheezy.
I find I have a sore throat and my voice sounds different for a while after I've taken it though. I keep getting thrush and multiple ulcers in my mouth as well. But I had that before I think it's the fostair qvar combo. No matter how much I rinse after taking them seems to make no difference.
Everything tastes kinda like chemicals when I eat lol
