Being a triathlete at 50 with asthma

Just wanted everyone to know that I did Castle Howard Triathlon with chronic asthma and it felt great!!

I worked hard and despite numerous mini asthma attacks my lungs are in pretty good shape.

Anything is possible with Asthma - you just have to do it.

You are so right. Good for you. Personally I would rather sit and have a cream tea at Castle Howard these days as been told not to run by consultant - shame because this time last year I was thinking of going running with my niece who did the couch to 5k and now runs marathons. Never mind. Maybe when my current problems are sorted I will be able to run with her later.

Take care and Well done to you! The more you do the more you will be able to do.

I spent 20 years making excuses - the exercise has made an incredible difference to my asthma. I think a lot of it is shaking 3 .5 stone of weight and getting my heart and lungs working.

It hasn't been easy though I have had a lot of set backs, mainly due to developing a reaction to my medication.

I picked triathlons because I like cycling and swimming and can do both without too much fuss. For me asthma has been a way of life that has controlled me - these days I control it.

My doctor told me that I need to start exercising to make my asthma more under control naturally. How do you start when you get shortness of breath during exercise? Is there a trick that works well? I don't want to rely on medication all my life. I will be 53 this Dec.
