Consultant emails

Hi everyone,

Many people on the forum have mentioned contacting their cons/asthma nurse via email. Is this available in the UK? I have an asthma nurse and resp cons (though changing soon due to relocation), but I have never heard of being able to contact my medical team through email.

Thanks,

Chukk

Hey Chukk,

Em I think it depends on the consultant. I have been told several times to just email if I need anything because my asthma is so brittle that really GPs dont know what to do with me and so I can just get advice straight from my cons. It also makes it easier when I'm admitted/ seen in clinic as she has a better idea of what's been going on.

Hope this helps

I don't know for sure but I agree with Becca that it is probably down to the cons/hospital. I am currently under the care of 2 cons at different hospitals for the same problem (not asthma). One gave me his email to ask questions and even say if I don't feel I need to see him at a specific appointment while the other is very hard to contact (only through sec). When I was seeing a cons for asthma, I had a phone number for the asthma nurses who I contacted if necessary.

Thank you both for replying! I see, it's more a matter of the specific cons rather than the location. Good to know, thanks again!

I've had the number and email for my hospital resp nurse for several months, actually numbers for 2 and email for one. A couple of days ago I had an email direct from my consultant, but while I email the nurse freely when I need advice or even moral support, I wouldn't email the cons unless it was an emergency or I had been asked to. They all work across 2 hospitals so its not always easy to track them down otherwise!
