I haven't got one but did research the breed a little while ago when I was looking for a dog.

Malting wise they are good as they malt in clumps and a lot less then other non curly breeds.

Temperament wise they got slightly mixed reviews but having had dogs of all breeds and sizes I am a believer that its all in how the dog is handled.

I've heard that labradoodles are a good breed for people with allergies. They are very cute.

Hi we have a cocker of some discription (he is a rescue dog and they told us he was a cockerpoo but we don't think that he is)and he doesn't shed hair at all we have to get him clipped. So he is very good for me :) he is really chilled at home and very hyper when out at the park chasing birds his ball or swimming :)

Your reaction to any dog is dependent on how severe your allergy is. I have a Dachshund Smooth Haired and find that my reaction is slightly more increased as opposed to previously owning a long haired Dachshund. It is not the hair that people are allergic too, but the dander, but the kind of hair a dog has does make a difference. All dog hair has barbs on each single hair, and the more barbs, the more the dander clings to the coat. So I find I am terrible with wire haired dogs, manage with smooth hair dogs and fine with long haired dogs.

I have met some lovely cockerpoos, smashing personalities but very active, which is understandable with a spaniel being part of the cross breed. I would investigate the breed thoroughly, see if there are any online groups or local dog classes who might be able to give you advice. Because once you take a dog on and the children fall in love with it, damn hard for both the dog and children to give up if it goes wrong.

Also advise if allergy is a problem but you really want a dog to be part of your family, regular house cleaning, keeping the dog away from the bedrooms and off furniture is helpful.

And finally don't be fooled by any adverts that claim that a dog is perfect for allergy sufferers, because there really is no such thing.

Good points there Katina.

Jillywilly, how are your daughters affected by asthma and are they allergic or react to dogs?

Mixed breeds like cockapoos can have very variable appearance and coat. Best to check out the breed and the individual breeder/animal carefully.

Hi

I have a cockerpoo, he never molts and my daughter and husband have asthma and have never had a problem with him. My daughter gets very wheezy with dogs and she can put her whole face into his fur and she never has a reaction.

Cockerpoos have the most kind and gentle temperament.

I would highly recommend the breed we got ours from

foxislegundogs.co.uk

click on pups for sale and scroll down

They are based in Doncaster, and it was worth the journey and the cost, having peace of mind.

The breeders Tina and Ed even offered to wash the pup so it doesn't have any hair from the mum, and also offered to bring the pup out to your car if you were highly sensitive.

They also have a great policy that if you have a reaction they would take the pup back and you could try another one if you wanted to.

They were so helpful, we had 3 visits before we took out pup (woody ) home. First visit we reserved him, second visit we checked to see if we had any reactions and third visit we took him home.

If you are local to me,Cambridgeshire, you are welcome to come and visit Woody x

If you need any other help just ask xx
