cons. appointment.

I'm sorry for another thread, and I'm sorry if its confusing at all.

when I've been in hospital and I haven't had much of a response from salbutamol nebs. bricanyl nebs have been used instead and I've responded well to them. I prefer those ones to salbutamol, as I seem to have less side effects.

does anyone know if it'd be possible to get changed to bricanyl inhalers instead of salbutamol ones if I respond to it better, or is salbutamol a first line treatment and bricanyl is only used in allergies to salbutamol?

Hi,

I'm not allergic to salbutamol but Bricanyl was my only reliever when I was younger (they felt it worked better for me), and I requested Bricanyl from my GP this time round with no trouble when the salbutamol didn't seem to work that well.

I think salbutamol is generally the first treatment tried, perhaps because you can have loads without problems, but it would definitely be worth bringing this up with your cons and explaining that you'd like to try it as an inhaler.

Btw writing a (reasonably concise) summary of what's been going on I think can be very helpful; focuses your mind and also helps them as they can read it through, takes less time and you won't forget stuff as you might on the day. I think the reg found it really helpful today for me.

I've been thinking a lot during the day. I was on bricanyl nebs last night, only needed 3 with no IV meds needed, whereas when I'm on salbutamol nebs in the same situation, I usually end up on 8 or 9 nebs with IV meds. I'm possibly being logical here, but if bricanyl nebs help more, then I'd have thought, the same would go with bricanyl inhalers? I'm not sure when I'm gonna be seeing cons. again, I was started on seretide 500 when I last saw him.

If you speak to your consultant, gp or asthma nurse, they should be able to give you a bricanyl inhaler instead of a salbutamol one.

Good luck with it all, let us know how you get on

take care

i've tried both Bricanyl and ventolin and symbicort as releivers. my best response is with bricanyl turbohaler (breath activated - therefore less technique issues than with ventolin). i am not an allergy triggered asthmatic but my asthma nurse and GP are quite happy to have me on bricanyl on repeat. good luck. take care and i hope they let you out of COSTA soon. ><>
