My goodness lets hope it is not a long cold winter! Its about time a one off fuel payment was extended to people on higher rate DLA.

Amen to that !!!! (but too much like common sense for it to become a reality !)

I'd like them to extend the one-off fuel payment to everyone ;)

On the other hand, with British Gas increasing their prices by 35% at the same time as they announce record profits of £1bn, can I suggest that a visit to u-switch.com (or similar price comparison website) for any existing British Gas customers would be a very wise move?

Steve too late, everyone else is wacking up prices the best advice is if you had not capped your prices then sit tight and wait it out. That was according to the BBC lunch time news.

I have a prepay meter for both elec and gas so its already quite expensive but i rang british gas this morn and got my current deal capped till 2011. after that i doubt ill be able to keep warm lol!

Last christmas i had a new heating system installed its already saving me money as i no longer have a water tank to keep warm the water just heats up as it goes through the boiler erm i cant remeber what its called :S still less expensive than my previous heating system.

Ill consider switching once this capped thing ends!

That type of heater is known as an ""on-demand"" heater, and they are significantly cheaper than those with storage tanks to keep warm - we have two of them (one for the heating, one for hot water from the taps), not through choice but because the bloke who owned the house before us was a bit mental. He glued a fitted desk to the wall AND floor in one of the bedrooms!

cheers steve I found out its called a combi boiler is that the same thing im confused :S

Forked out on the house last year getting it properly insulated everywhere - not easy or cheap with a solid concrete roof. Thought it would make it feel more comforatable (which it most definitely is), but did not expect financial payback for another thousand or so years. (Seems like grants only available for convential lofts that can be conventionally insulated.) At this rate, though, it''ll only take 2 weeks of winter and I'll have paid for it all.

Mine is going to be very cheap this winter unless I get some central heating fitted! I am getting a Combi boiler hopefully along with proper radiators with individual thermostats. Must rattle housing tommorrow!

Then..... Farewell to the hiddeous metal cased breeze block things called storage heaters!.

I am going to get gas from my existing electricity provider as they seem to be the last one to put up fuel prices , plus I will hang on to the Economy 7!

I have no concept of how much gas is now as not used it since I moved in April.

A fuel payment would be nice though I did get something a few years ago when it was very cold - was enough to buy a thermal vest!
