last winter was my first with asthma, and I really hope this isn't a repeat. 3 months of constant colds and chest infections, which is certainly unusual for me as i would never get a cold, even when others around me would, damn asthma, or actually I should blame the management at the pool that caused my asthma in the first place.

hope yo manage to stay well.

Chris

For the last couple of winters I've had a bit of tightness in my chest in the cold weather, and a cold or two that ""went to my chest"" which colds never did in the past. After last winter, the tightness never cleared up, and I've spent the summer trying various combinations of inhalers to get rid of it. It's gone now a lot of the time (though today hasn't been very good), but I'm nervous about the coming winter.

Winter came with viruses, colds and infections. So I plan to avoid it this year. When would it officially be the end of winter?

Gill, with the weather we've had until recently, when did we have summer?

Hi, like you, this is my first winter with asthma and i must say i am a bit worried about it. I used to get a 'normal' winter cold anyway when i didnt have asthma. But now i have it, i want to try and avoid getting a one this year (is that possible?!) Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Hi folks, take 1/2 puffs of your reliver and put a scarf over your nose and month before leaving the house. Wrap up really warm! Make sure you eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegtables and get lots of hot drinks. Keep an eye on your peak flow and you should survive winter without too many problems!

Also keep your heating at a constant level so your house isnt too cold. Also stay away from people with bugs!

Hope that helps you asthma newbies

Sounds like good advice, Plumie, but I'm already sitting inside with the heating on and keep pulling my cardigan over my face. I think I'll move into a sauna for the winter.

Actually, when I recover from getting too close to the incense on Sunday, I should be able to handle it all a bit better.

Hi Guys!!!!

I struggle with my asthma in the heat when it is too hot and stuffy so have to make sure that in winter I don't over do the heating, as if it is like a sauna in my house or anywhere really, I really struggle......Like today I was in a pokey office with no windows and no air and it was literally like a sauna and I was struggling so much with my breathing........

As for winter I tend to do wot Plumie suggests and do keep an eye on your peak flows, and I tend to cover my mouth up with a thin scarf only cos a thick one makes me breathe a bit faster as it gets too warm....But if you are ever in doubt about what u think u should be doing or if at all you don't feel well, speak to your GP or asthma nurse, they should be always happy to help...

Keep safe over the coming cooler/ colder months
