peak flow

well it all depends on your gender, height and age i think. its more about the pattern of your peak flow score more than the number you get. but once you know your best score its helps give you warning when an attack is coming as if it drops below about 50% of your personal best then you need to go to your GP or follow your action plan.

hope this helps a little!!

Glynis,

go to peakflow.com and enter your age, gender and height and that should tell you what a typical reading should be for you but your own personal best might be higher or lower, in addition speak to your GP and/or your Asthma Nurse at your GP's practice and ask them to complete an Asthma Action Plan with you, this states what to do when you peakflow is at certain readings in addition to your symptoms.

It's important to know your best PF so you know when things are not normal for you. My best PF is much higher than my predicated PF, therefore a low PF for me doesn't look that low based on predicted values.

Did the doctor/consultant prescribing your PF meter not give you instructions? When I first had one (and they go over this regularly) I was told about and had to demonstrate and work to get best technique (so readings are accurate) and percentage levels and actions to take at each level worked out.
