Hi chickstar, join the club, I'm feeling a bit freaked out too! (see my post 'too scared to go out"")

Sorry to hear your's has come back, so many people are saying that this is the worse year they can remember. I believe it has a lot to do with the polution levels over the hot summer.

What do you think?

Hi chickstar

Welcome to the site hope you find it helpful i know i do you can chat to other suffers who give support and advice as well.

Thanks Guys!

Thank you Rusty & Poppy for your kind words, i defintley agree with you about the pollution levels its seems to be worse than ever just going out for the shopping or for a drink with friends my asthma is always at the back of my mind, and also i'm really embarrassed about it so i haven't really told anyone, suppose i should in case something happened, but even the thoughts of telling anyone get me tight chested, I can't win! Any advice?

Hi Chickstar,

Sorry you're asthma's come back - thats a real downer. I'd definitely tell at least your close friends - am sure they'd rather know and know what to do than not to know if you got bad when out with them. I've found over the years and meeting new friends that they don't make half as big a deal as you think they will - that being said I still hate telling people! Mind you, most of my friends now either tell new people we meet to start with so it's out of my hands or ask how I am so they find out anyway - better to be out in the open and than at least you won't be worrying about what to do if you start to feel ill.

Good luck!

hello chickstar,

Hello Chickstar,

Sorry you’re having problems with your asthma, but you have definitely come to the right place for support and help.

I’ve always had difficulty telling folks about my asthma, - still do - but on reflection I’m sure they can’t fail to have noticed! Like Cal says if you start by telling your close friends it does get easier.

Most people know somebody who has an allergy, because it is such a topical issue. It’s a short step from starting a conversation about a more generalised subject like allergies, to moving on and linking the conversation to asthma, and then hopefully to how you suffer and the sort of medication you have to take.

Good luck and take care, and keep talking to us!

Mia

Hi Chickster,

My asthma has been a lot worse this year too. It's best to tell those you are with most of the time and very close too. That way it will become natural to tell others if you need to. No need to be embarrasses by asthma or by taking inhalers. That too will become a natural phenomenon. Most people aren't even aware that you are doing it. i can be with people at work all day and most of them wouldn't know if i have used my inhaler or not.

Ange

Thanks
