High IgE

I have a very high IgE (last blood test I think it was over 2000) and this was on 5mg of Levocertizine twice a day. I am wondering What can be done to lower IgE? and could this be making my asthma worse?

If you google 'ige, asthma, vitamin d' you will find loads of articles and research linking higher ige levels and asthma with Vitamin D deficiency.

So might be something to consider.

Forgarty (Lancet, 2000) shows dietary vitamin E ""were associated with lower serum IgE concentrations and a lower frequency of allergen sensitisation"" (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/110...

Magnesium has been shown to have similar effects but I don't have a citation to hand.

You may have also heard of Omalizumab (Xolair) in the press. This monoclonal anti-body is an IgE inhibitor indicated in atopic asthma but is very expensive. It also requires that you have confirmed allergy to perennial aero-allergen. Your allergen specific IgE and skin prick test positive results as opposed to total IgE maybe more relevant.

You may wish to expore allergen desensitisation/immunotherapy subject to your physician's advice rather than trying to lower your IgE levels as a whole. Numerous studies show it be highly effective in reducing allergy related asthma. You should also keep an eye on Cytos Biotech that have developed a promising ""allergy vaccine"" which modulates the immune response without introducing an allergen. This may not be too far away now they are starting phase 3 trials.

Good luck

I dont have any allergies as such that they can find so cant have de-sensisation and my IgE is too high for Xiolair unfortunalty... so going sub-cut

I have been taking magnesuim supplements for a while but dosnt seem to be helping!

high IgE

Having a high IgE means you're atopic or in other words you have allergies.

veggiebab,

not sure why you've answered an old topic and said a high IgE means atopy or allergies after bizkid said none were found on tests.
