Hello everyone. At the moment I'm at my wits end wondering what I can do next. I think I would be classed as having fairly severe chronic Asthma for which I take three puffs of my brown inhaler and two of my green one morning and evening and also am using my blue reliever up to four times daily and once sometimes twice at night. I have been on several doses of Prednisalone but still can't seem to get my Asthma under control. I'm coughing and wheezing on and off throughout the day and am hardly getting any sleep for it. Can any of you long standing experts suggest something more that I can do to help myself, I've tried steam inhalations but that doesn't seem to help either.
It sounds like your asthma isn't well controlled at the moment. The best thing you can do is go back to your GP in order to discuss this. S/he will probably recommend that you see the asthma nurse. You will be asked to keep a peak flow diary (recording your peak flow and your symptoms 2 or 3 times a day), which will allow them to see exactly how well controlled, or otherwise, your asthma is. This, in turn, will allow your doctor to decide what the best course of action is - it may be a change in medication, for instance.
Really, you shouldn't be struggling with this on your own, and it can be dangerous to do so when your asthma isn't well controlled. Asthma is a very treatable disease, and you need to be discussing all your options with your GP.
Hope you start to feel much better soon.
Hi Sleepymazza, thank you for your reply. Yes I was with the doctor and the Asthma nurse yesterday and I'm having to do exactly what you have suggested, as I have been doing on and off for months now!! When I get like this they usually give me Prednisalone but it's only a couple of weeks since my last cycle of them. They've put me on anti-biotics at the mo but there is no chect infection so they are not helping much. I know obviously that I can't get medical advice as such on here but just wondered if any long standing Asthma sufferers had found any tricks of the trade so to speak that I could use to help myself. I'm doing all the obvious, anti-alergy bedding, hoovering meticulously etc, etc.
