I know where your coming from it's very confusing. I was wheezing during the night two nights ago but peak flow was 250 as it usually is in the morning. Other times have gone to see my GP the next morning as chest is mucousy and tight and the wheeze that was there during the night has gone. My theory is that I have coughed up the mucous that was stuck causing wheezing. This condition is full of mysteries!.

hi,

I only wheeze with a chest infection.

I do have thick mucus in throat 24/7

that wont cough up and have meds for it to help shift it xxxx

Yep i know excatly how you feel for the past few weeks i have began to hear these weird high picthed creaky sounds (wheezes) i went to the doctor and he could hear nothing, so i thought i was fine now my peak flow is permenatly in the orange zone, 250- 300( my peak flow was high now has dropped low) very clever and what i find weird is that i had never wheezed before this now i wheeze everyday, Asthma is always changing is the lesson i learnt. anyway i reckon you should see your doc it might be a warning sign of an attack or he might hear your wheezes and up your doses or give you some pred, hope you stop wheezing soon love

i took my reliever and it went away almost instantly, but just confused as i have never wheezed before and i took my PF when it happened but it was 450 (my personal best is 500 but i hardly ever reach it lol) and i thought it was weird that my chest should make those noises and yet still be able to produce ""good numbers""?..

if i went to the GP and told her what was happening, i would not be able to prove that i had wheezed and if she took my PF then i would become a laughing stock with such a healthy number! it is truly confusing sometimes! xxx

I have had what I thought was wheezing before and my numbers were good (I was getting in the 350-400 zone which back then was good for me). I asked my doctor and he said it was an Upper Respiratory ""Wheeze"" which actually was called Stridor.

Stridor comes from the vocal chords and is a higher pitched sound whereas wheezing tends to come from (and in my case can be felt) lower down. Stridor can be often mistaken for wheeze and can be helped by the muscle relaxants that are in a bronchiodiolator medication. It can actually be a sign of anything from VCD (Vocal Chord Dysfunction) or even a throat infection, so it is best to get it looked at, especially of you are concerned.

Hope this helps :)

But in that case how can you tell what type of wheeze you have?... i did not notice whether it was ""upper"" or ""lower"". would a doctor be able to to tell?

if it is what you say, then is it not related to asthma then? and is it anything to worry about at all?

my wheeze was not particularly audible though.. it was more something i could ""feel"" rather than hear.. if that makes sense?

I was told...

If u wheeze when breathing in. Indicates problems with upper airways....

If u wheeze when breathing out ... Indicates problems with lower airways. Ie asthma ......

I was told something similar. A doctor would be able to hear exactly where the wheeze was coming from, as well as assessing the air entry.

It is complex really and to get a clear idea as to what is going on, I would go and have a chat with your GP, she won't laugh or be mean, but she can hopefully put your mind to rest

I wheeze when breathing out so does that mean its for the chest ?? do you know what i find weird i wheeze often but whenever i go to the doc/nurse they can't hear it is it all in my head ?? (i do have other symptoms along with wheezing)
