hi susan,

yes i too have a cough (not as bad since been on meds but still annoying),tight chest, mucas and a constant wheeze.which will be gone soon hopefully.but i seem to be getting more things to add to the list as well.

take care d58 xxxx

Hi susan

Like yourself and D58 I have a cough which gas settked down loads on meds, tight chest (very at mo) and also at mo loads of mucus that I can't get rid of. Unlike you my pf is down for my age but don't wheeze really only odd occasions .

Yes me too all that but not usually an actual wheeze and no proper diagnosis, lots of coughing and phlegmy feeling.

Any recommend peak flow meters?

I have just been diagnosed, thought I was Ok in good weather (if anyone remembers that!) but damp and a bug (?mild swine flu) put paid to that. I was very tired the week before and when I was first diagnosed, a week of extreme tiredness, then a bug then asthma. My peak flow was about 417 about right then down to 300 back to 350 when last checked.

Are digital peak flow meters worth having, I have seen some on Amazon or will one from the chemist be good enough?

Get a basic wrights peak flow (EU values) from your chemist for starters - you can get them on prescription - your doctor should prescribe one no problems.

Anyone who is newly diagnosed really should have a PF meter, I was given one, but later changed it for one of the digital versions. The only real difference is that the digital versions are more accurate, or at least that's the way i see it because my PF chart looks like an ECG trace, but the GP and nurse aren't concerned.

Thanks, Ill ask for one, then maybe get a digital one later, I saw one with FEV1 and 2 on Amazon.

The digital meters do FEV1, and some do FEV6, but FEV6 is more for COPD than asthma. FEV1 is useful.

The Piko 1 is available on prescription, please don't pay for one when your GP can just write a script for one if they think it is appropriate.
