hi,

I've had many fillings, not given general anesthetic tho, just local and never had a problem but make sure your dentist is awate of your asthma and what meds you are on, you should be fine :o)

Christine

Hi there

Everything should be fine as long as you make sure the dentist knows about your asthma and about any allergies you might have. Good luck!

hi

i think its virtually unheard of for general anesthetic to be used fore dental proceedures, unless its wisdom teeth, but you should tell the dentist about your condition. you will be fine :)

This is My Wisdom tooth. And what is better is I have only just got it!!!

There are lots of different types of anaesthetic used for local anaesthesia in dentistry, but they generally fall into 2 groups - those with adrenalin in and those without. Some people do not respond too well to adrenalin in that it can cause a raised heart rate and consequently rapid breathing. It does wear off after a while. I don't think this is peculiar to asthmatics however, just some people who are sensitive. Please make sure your Dentist is aware that you are asthmatic however, and take your reliever medication with you to the appointment. If the filling to be done is not going to be too deep, or near to the root nerve you could ask the Dentist to do the filling without local anaesthetic. He/She will tell you if it is not going to be appropriate for you.

Hope everything goes OK for you.
