Besides all the magic medication that i am taking nothing seems to allow me to pull up my chest like i used to before. It feels as though my lungs have dropped and i have gone flat chested along with this popped out belly. This all came on since i had pneumonia two years ago. Does any body else have this experience. I also have copd as well as asthma. This is so different after twenty years of thinking i can live with this. But now its so painfull at times as well. Any advice welcome.

Dropped Lungs

Hello

Not sure if this would help, but I was told weight lifting, just dumbells over your head and not the heavy ones or you may injure yourself.

This came from a man of 65 yrs who has asthma and diabeties. He says it has helped his physical appearance and the deep breathing which you do with the excercises has helped his stamina.

Although maybe you should ask your GP before starting any excercise program first.

I hope you feel better soon, and let me know how you get on.

If you want to start an exercise programme to improve your lungs and stamina see if your area does a GP referral sceme. A lot of areas do now. This is a closely supervised programme by trainers that plan an individual programme for you, reassess you regularly and they watch you like a hawk through it. It lasts for about 10 weeks.

hi

after having alot of problems, frequent trips to hosp, having to give up swimming cos can't cope with humidity, not able to walk far and then only slowly I was feeling so unfit it was unbelievable. I decided to jion small local gym. i don't do much in terms of exercise bike or treadmill as stressing breathing can bring on an attack but I do work - a little bit on some of the machines with weights. June who owns the gym and is a very well qualified trainer has worked our a personal programme for me and is always encouraging and sensible about what I can and cant do. My muscle tone is definately better and I feel better despite two hosp admissiions in the last month.

my GP is not keen in case exercise sets of an attack but consultant was OK.

i just take it steady and feel dead proud of my self if I manage about 20 mins in total.

Dropped lungs.

Thanks for the replies I have chased up my doctor to send me to the local gym for people with disabilities. First i must also build up my confidence again. getting out of breath seems to frighten these days, so its a bit of a mind game as well that i have got to play. Learn to relax is a bit of a problem for me lately, and when i get nervous my breathing gets worse. But i know that what you say will help me. It used to before make me feel better when i exercised, i just need to get through that barrier and then hopefully will see some improvement. Thanks once again. Sometimes it can be a lonely world.
