coated pred

I have just spent the last 19 days in hossie and am shocked to find the hospital are no longer supplying enteric (red)coated pred and so i had to rely on hubby bringing in my own suppplies from home!!!

I can understand that these are more expensive but surely if someone is on dosesof 40mg+ EC pred is def a better option i certainly know the heartburn from normal pred at this dose for me peronally is nasty.

Has anyone lese had this expereince?

yeap, my local dosn't stock the coated ones, hence why I take my own! I can stomach my maintance being the white ones but once over about 25mg my stomach dosn't and weirdly get more side effects!

Don't get e/c from GP here unless extra-special reasons I suspect, not been to hospital but think they're the same. There is a red pred thread just below this and sure I've seen others on it recently too.Think price has something to do with it.

Prices from BNF: prednisolone 1 mg, net price 28-tab pack = 93p; 5 mg, 28-tab pack = £1.03; 25 mg, 56-tab pack = £30.00.

e/c, prednisolone 2.5 mg (brown), net price 30-tab pack = £4.65, 100-tab pack = £30.79; 5 mg (red), 28-tab pack = £8.69, 100-tab pack = £31.04.

I only get the white ones in Costa, but do get red ones from my GP. My GP says it's to do with cost, my cons tried to fob me off with some story about how the white ones were absorbed better and so worked better, but a)I think this may be a story to sell the white ones and stop peeps asking for more expensive red ones and b)they can't work better if they're making me vomit so I'm not absorbing them at all, can they?

I didn't realise that people could request the EC ones? I'm on varying doses going up to 80mg, my hospital used to give me EC ones but stopped a while back, and I've always had the white ones from my GP.... I've just been making do with rennies and omeprazole!

Something to ask my GP at my next appointment!!

Same....my hospital no longer supply the enteric coated. I get them from my GP on special request as i find the white ones give me nasty stomach symptoms.

Like the others my feeling is that it is probably down to cost :(

Looks like the dissappearance of red pred is accross the board in hospitals then :(

Just dreading the day my GP says no mind u he is great as 1 of my other meds they changed for most pts but i was allowed to stay on it so i might be lucky!!!
