Just wondering whether anyone knows how long it takes Singulair 10 Mg to get into the system.
I was prescribed Singulair on Friday 27th February 2009, as my asthma is out of control and has been since november 2008. I'm also on Steroids 40mg a day, Symbicort 400/12 2 puffs twice daily.
For the first time in months the night time cough seems to have gone, but first thing in the morning i am coughing up phlegm still and during the day.
Wondering whether once the singulair is in my system, whether it will stop the day time cough?
Singulair can take up to 6-8 weeks to work completely....or at least that was what I was told by a specialist registrar. I tried it for a month sometime ago and it had no effect whatsover for me and I got some unpleasant side-effects (which I was told would go if I continued to take it) so I stopped taking it. However for my daughter it has been a 'miracle' drug and she is now symptom free apart from when she gets a cold.
I was told by another specialist that it works brilliantly for some people and not for others. My daughters' doctor said that it worked better for children and for people who were not using combination inhalers.
Anyway that is a sample of some of the discussions I have had about Singulair. I hope that it is successful for you, and I guess the thing to do is hang in there for a couple of months.

Ive been on singular since year blonk and although I do still have a lot of splats and blips with my asthma I think singular 10mg is a brilliant drug used in asthma just have paitence and you should start to feel the affects of it soon and I have never had a single side affect from it but no two persons are the same and others probbably do get the side affects but give it a chance and hope it works for you like it works for me hun take care xxxx

yeh i used to use singulair and it really helped
but it caused me a few weird sideaffects!

I've been taking singulair for about a year and 3 months, and have really found it to have helped my asthma. I think it took about 5 weeks to properly kick in, but when it did, it greatly improved my symptoms. Especially at night.

About a year and half ago I was in similar position to yourself - continuously on nebuliser, etc....
For me singulair was the turning point in my recovery! I also had to take over the amount of symbicort - 3 puffs three times a day to get it under control and have just started to be able to drop this down now!
Initially I had some positive effects initially quite soon, but the full effects wasn't for a good 6 weeks to I would have said three months...
Keep with it....
PS I also then had to get the GERD under control.....

I've just been prescribed Singulair 10mg today, after trying Salmeterol and getting side effects. I'm now on Clenil Modulite 200 4 puffs a day, and had a course of Pred about 3 weeks ago. Symptoms are back but not quite as bad as they have been, although still bothering me most days.
So, hoping the Singulair helps. Will keep you posted, peeps.

hi i have been using singulair for 18 months now and it has made a difference to my life but i must admit it took so long to work on me that the asthma specialist said just one more course and i would have to stop taking it as it usually kicks in quite soon after you start taking it. Luckily for me it started working no morning cough and it has reduced my having to take prednisolone quite dramatically, it is not a miracle cure but has significantly improved my quality of life and for that i am very grateful. Stick with it because i am sure we all react differently to medication Good Luck.chata017
