New to Symbicort

Hi All, I have just been to see my asthma nurse who has prescribed Symbicort 400. I am new to this inhaler, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it has improved their asthma and anything else about this inhaler? Thanks, EmmaC

'New to Symbicort'

I've been on Symbicort for a few weeks now and it helps tremendously, I think it takes a few weeks to really get into your system so don't worry.

Make sure you wash your mouth out thoroughly after taking the inhalor or you will end up with thrush, I still get it occasionally but I'm on quite a bit of other medication.

Mal

Hi mal, Thanks for your reply. I`m hoping that it will improve my asthma as it is not very controlled at the moment. Any help on this subject is gratefully received. EmmaC

Hi Emma,

I'm on symbicort 400 and have been for a couple of years (possibly more - not sure when I was changed from the 200 verison). I would agree with Mal - washing your mouth out after using it is important as it can definitely make my throat sore and voice hoarse every now and again. Asthma wise initially it worked really well for me to the point that I would forget to take it as I felt so well (not good)!! Now it's not so effetive but still good and I think that's just because my asthma has changed over time. It's easy to take as you don't have to co-ordinate fingers and lungs like you do for the pump and spray ones. It did make me feel as though my heart was going quite fast sometimes at first, but this soon stopped and I think that is listed as one of the possible side effects. I hope it works for you!!

Hi Lee, Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately it made my asthma worse so I have had to be put back on my seretide as I felt so bad. The nurse is now talking about putting me on Singulair. Maybe that will work. Thanks again. EmmaC
