Hi Kelwoo,

Hadn't heard of it before but a quick search brought up these links.

heart2hearts.co.uk/costocon...

webmd.com/pain-management/c...

I found if you spell it COSTOCHONDRITIS you get more hits from English speaking pages.

Hope they might help a little - poor you, it sounds horrid :o(

Feejay

ouch, sounds painful,

here is some treatment options I found

The goals of treatment are to reduce inflammation and to control pain. To accomplish these goals, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs) are used, with ibuprofen usually selected as the drug of choice. Other NSAIDS options are flurbiprofen, mefenamic acid, ketoprofen, and naproxen. Additional treatment recommendations include the use of local heat, biofeedback, and gentle stretching of the pectoralis muscles two to three times a day.

For more difficult cases, where the patient continues to exhibit pain and discomfort, cortisone injections are used as therapy.

Unfortunately for some asthmatics the use of NSAIDs isn't an option, hope your not one of them.

hi woody som

many thanks for your message, yes it is really painful and ibuprofen doesnt help so on paracetamol which only seems to work for 1 hr! sitting here with a hot water bottle on my chest wishing it to be thursday (when i see the doctors) and hoping to get a ct scan done.

Hi kelwoo. I had chondritis a few months ago and it was awful. I'd never heard of it before either and I was told the only cure would be to take asprin or ibuprofen but I can't take either so just had to bare it. The chest pains were awful I thought initially it was my asthma but inhaler wasn't helping and it just didn't feel right. I had a few trips to docs and it took about 6 wks before I stopped getting the pains in my chest. Wouldn't want it again in a hurry! Any other questions about it just ask!!
