Buying a Nebuliser

hi guys

well looks like i will have to buy a nebuliser, was lent one from my GP practise and they will want it back next month.

So any advice. should i buy from a chemist? or on line?

You should check to see if your hospital pharmacy supplies them free of charge. If you know the machine you want I would buy online. As you can safe yourself a bit of money.

If your unsure about the model check your local pharmacy for models but still buy online. Even getting the giving sets and flters can be cheaper online. I like the Respironicz porta neb. But that's wot my hospital use so they give me free filters and ngiving sets now...

Hi we got a parimed unilight (I think it's called), it delivers the meds quickly and both my Son and I have used it.Our doctor at the hospital recommended it as they only use these, they have them to loan out for holidays. It's not cheap £235 but it's portable and can run on mains, battery or car battery. It goes with us everywhere and is light. Got it from Evergreen (I think thats what the company are called (cheaper than getting it direct from company, weird I know!!Our last one lasted about 6 years.

thank you rattles and gussy poo. i must admit i like the idea of the one that you can use in the car as i go camping quite a bit and there is not always electric. i know its expensive about £235 but in the long run it wont limit me to be able to use it anywhere also something about using rechargabel batteries as well.

Hello H Mama Heather,

If you need a nebuliser and have been recommended to use one by the hospital your GP can make a recommendation to the PCT to fund the cost of a nebuliser.

The cost of my nebuliser was funded by the PCT. I asked for an omron microair because I needed a portable, discreet and silent nebuliser.

It’s worthwhile asking your GP. You have nothing to lose.

If you are happy to have a very basic non portable one, hosp may provide or you can purchase one for around £50.

Portable ones are £80 -£100.... Omron Microairs are very good!

Evergreens are very good - Google them!

The Pari Unilight has now been replace by the Pari boy Mobile S which is what I use its a great neb and I definitely would recommend it.

I have ust looked over this thread as I have to sort out purchasing a nebuliser for my son and I wasn't sure about what to get. We have one on hire from the hospital at th emoemnt but it doesn't arrive until Monday and we have hired a portable one. Will let you what it is called and how good it is once we have used ita few days as it is going ot have to be tranbsported to school and back everyday as we couldn't hire a spare once for school.

Hi Wanda, that's the one we bought last year, your right, I got the old and new names muddled!! The battery is rechargable by mains.We take it everywhere, it's so light.Fantastic bit of kit.
