hiya, im afraid the only thing i know about haemophilus influenza is that it is most commonly found in cases of bacterial meningitis ( a-level biology quoting here!).

Although a quick google search did chuck up this:

The most common presentation (60% of all cases) of invasive Hib disease is meningitis, frequently accompanied by bacteraemia. Hib meningitis primarily affects children younger than 2 years, with a peak frequency rate occurring in infants aged 6-9 months.

Fifteen per cent of cases present with epiglottitis. Epiglottitis most commonly occurs in children aged 2-7 years but can also occur in adults.

Bacteraemia, without any other concomitant infection, occurs in 10% of cases. The remainder is made up of cases of septic arthritis, osteomyelitis, cellulitis, pneumonia and pericarditis.

Hib pneumonia typically occurs in children aged 4 months to 4 years.

Hib causes septic arthritis and cellulitis in children younger than 2 years. Hib septic arthritis manifests in adults as well.

hope you feel much better soon :)

My sputum has cultured it a number of times over the years and so far it's always cleared up with oral ab's. It's a very common bug in chest infections, sinus infections etc. I wouldn't worry about it clare, honestly

kind thoughts

Hi Clare

hope you feel better soon, oral antib can do the job quite well, be guided by hospital cons.

Good luck

Sarah

thanks for the replys.

I was just concerned as it was something I had not heard of.

now I just need to hide from all the bugs floating about they seem to like you more when you have been here a while!!!

thank you

clare :)

I've grown this in every sputum sample ever had when well or not well over the last 8 years!

Usually treatable with usual antib's if you have symptoms of chest infection. Sometimes if i'm well they don't bother!
