IgE blood test

Hi,

Going for an IgE and allergy blood test. Will my medicines - inhalers, antihistamine, montelukast, nasal spray - affect the results? Do I need to stop any of them or do I just take them all as normal?

Thank you!

I've had several IGE and allergy blood tests over the last few months and have never been told to stop any of my medication for them - including pred, antihistamines, inhalers etc. So I'm assuming that they dont interfere.

I was given an IgE and allergy blood test instead of a skin prick test because I am on anti-histamines and was told these would have affected a skin prick test.

as ratty rightly says skin prick tests may be affected by steroids and are affected by antihistamines the blood tests are classed as the gold standard nowadays anyway. Good luck! Xxx

My consultant decided to do my skin prick tests on IV hydrocort and antihistamines! Possibly because it was a spur of the moment decision and I'd already taken them. Got positive reactions anyway so god knows how bad would have been without them. And all my allergy blood tests were done on pred which apparently isn't ideal as it lowers the IgE count I think. (Could be wrong on that last bit)
