How much effort for a trifle!!

Olives and strawberries- my nan would have a fit. I do think we should challenge him to come up with a decent allergy free cake though, apart from Kates Crazy cake.

Wheat free, egg free, dairy free, and definitly nut free please. If he cant' do it theres no hope!

Will see if my carrot cake can be addapted to wheet free!

Have seen bits of Hestons programmes - very scientific in his approach.

I missed the one with the chicken & the bicycle pump.....

Hi. I was a Head Chef and Kitchen Manager in my previous life. .. (in catering for 21 years) We (husband was also a chef - now a cheese maker) Watch Mr H B and always ask the same question ....""WHY""????

I think he must be a CLOSET chemist trapped in a chefs body.... and I like many others do not like my food to be PLAYED WITH!!! and personally I have never come across anyone that has liquid hydrogen or an atom splitting machine at home. Do not know if I would want to either.

But it is compulsive viewing none the less...who knows maybe one day he will just COOK something and surprise/shock us all.

I,ll wager that when hes at home he has a bag of crisps and a fish finger buttie!!!

Bluejam1878 .. if he is anything like any other Chef ...you are correct, in my case it was a ""bowl of cereal or toasted tomato sandwich"" , my husband was ""Baked beans on toast

Speaking of yummy food;had a lovely lamb hock marinated in Jack Daniels on our works Xmas ""do"" tonight-absolutely gorgeous!!

Just back from a Christmas meal with parents, my elder brother and his long-term girlfriend (plus of course, Peaksteve) - we had leg of Wild Boar in a cider, cranberry and apple gravy. Absolutely delicious; at a little country pub not far from us in a village called Clent.

BlueJam1878 and Cathbear ..Those meals sound lovely. I am in the process of cooking tomorrows evening meal as my husb is working and it's my birthday...he did not want me cooking on my birthday so I am doing all the prep now (feeling much better after having had a Mayor Argument with my B.A.T1 - which I eventually won!)

So my birthday menu reads:

Orkney Cheese with Chili Jam - farm cheese coated in tempura batter and quickly deep fried (we are Scottish after all!!!) served on a bed of crispy salad and accompanied with home made chili jam

Dark Island Pie - Organic Aberdeen Angus Topside cut into large pieces and gently cooked on local Dark Island (Hoy) Ale, with a fine puff pastry (which I never eat but my family loves) served with red cabbage/apple/sultana mix and orange glazed carrots and steamed organic potatoes.

Home made (vegetarian- no gelatin) Lemon cheese cake - own recipe

Mayor pig out !!! but you don't turn 45 every day.

Susy

PS, really envious of all of you that can go out for a meal and it goes with out saying that YOU are all invited to my birthday dinner , so see you at 6.00pm !!!!
