Sleep....Or Not

Sleep is just not happening for me at the moment.

Spend the entire day yawning and tired, find it near impossible to get out of bed in a morning.

But when it comes to bed time - I am wide awake!!

Probably doesn't help that I have a complete inability to relax!

Any tips on conquering the insomnia?

So annoying when that happens - have been there, fortunately not at the moment even though breathing not great (weird, but useful).

Are you thinking about the day too much? I find thinking, in a 'daytime' kind of way, is not helpful. Letting your mind drift can help, kind of 'daydreaming' - I find this often leads into the proper night-time sort. Or something like 'if you could invite anyone living or dead to a party who would you have' - quite fun to do and I find it keeps out the stressful daytime thoughts well and tends to get me drifting off.

I hope all that makes sense - may be just me and is also easier said than done - I do find it hard to stop thinking about the day. Try clenching then relaxing each part of your body in turn as well - head down or feet up.

Also try to avoid too much internet/TV right before bed. I have heard the backlighting can mess with your natural sleep cycle as it's too bright for the time of day, if that makes sense - can sort of fool your body into thinking it's not sleep time after all. Try reading in bed if you like reading.

Hope some of this is useful. I have no idea really what made me start getting to sleep within a reasonable time instead of being awake for 2 hours+

Warm bath, read to tire eyes, soft music, write down things on mind so dont play on your mind and keep you awake.Milky drink. xxx

Lots of tips for me to try - thank you :)

Unfortunately the hot bath one wont work as only have a shower :(

Try a warm bath or shower and a strong cup of camomile tea. Camomile is one of natures natural relaxants.

Also my wife discovered that Avon do a Sleeptheraphy balm. You apply it to your temples and wrists. Works for me.

I find my antihistamines knock me out, also if I take Paracetomol at night. Other than that, lavender essential oil on my forehead and wrists, hot water bottle at my feet and cup of hot chocolate.

Me too. The drowsy antihistamines really put me to sleep.

I am struggling to sleep at the moment it was just to hot and stuffy last night opened every window but the breeze seems to be coming from all different directions - not in my windows. I am tired today. Maybe done a bit much over the last week. :(

Try tuning the radio in to BBC Radio 4, turn the volume down until you can just hear it and then listen hard. Works for me!
