Calling All Veggies

Daughter is veggie. New Year's Day veggie lunch option - consisted of nothing. She'd to have a plate of vegetables. New Year's Day lunch is a special occasion up here. So What were they thinking of?

Non-veggies have the traditional steak pie so could they not have come up with at least something for the others? Pasta even.

I am a veggie and I usually have the same veggies etc and an alterntive ie steak pie would be a veggie one usuing quorn and say if its pasta then my mum would make a vegtable one and we would all have that... making a load of mince up and freezing it is always a good idea but i eat allot of quorn

Hi Bizkid,

Thanks for reply. My thread was really a rant at the inability of our local hospital to come up with a veggie option today. Today's menu? Chicken, beef or steak pie. So for DD's lunch, she had a plate with a blob of mashed potato, four very small roast potatoes and 5 teeny bits of broccolli. At the moment, DD in hospital with swine flu and pre-eclampsia. Quarantined in room for the next few days and thus dependent on hospital meals. We'd to bring in food at visiting time.

At home we've always used the second drawer in freezer for vegetarian foods only. Though DD left home some years ago, we still keep stocked up for anytime she's over feeding the cats if we're on holiday and when she's over anyway.

Sorry to hear your DD is stuck in hospital.

I can't (ok maybe I can!) belive that in the last 7years they've done *nothing* to improve veggie options! I had the same problem over christmas when I was pregnant with my first. Of course they were still serving HUGE slabs of liver to the pregnant ladies then too!!

I had to rely on friends, family and cheese sandwiches from the hospital shop. My best meal.... a freind phoned to say she was coming up and going past the drive thru, did I want a veggie burger? LOL

Hope she's out of quarantine soon and little one doesn't mess with her BP too much.

That is just not acceptable. A stern letter to the hosp chief exec might have some effect.

Ohh hospital veggie food is rubbish, its ok if they send menu's out before but the options are usually cheese bake or califlower cheese (I see it more of a side) and too much cheese makes me ill or omlett. Genarally I go for the snack menu which they use on the kids wards chips with veggie fingers but parents tend to bring me in food to keep me going!!

I have had meals where I have had to wait for 2 hours for the kitchens to send something up and once I said ohh Im a veggie and they said fish was the option!

I have to say I that's disgraceful! It makes me wonder how they feed people with food allergies and intolerences if they can't even sort out a simple vegetarian meal! Mind you I shouldn't really be surprised, I've heard of the catering staff happily handing out grapefruit for breakfast on a cardiac ward, when there is a well known food-drug interaction between grapefruit and statins (a group of cholesterol lowering drugs that most heart patients will be on).

Stern letter will be going in re no veggie options.

edit: cos I went off on a bit of a rant on other stuff. Apolologies.

2nd edit: cos couldn't spell apologies. Apologies.

am veggie myself and can sometimes find it hard to find meals to suit this, sometimes, i will waver a hospital meal in favour of something steve can bring in to me, sometimes its something small like a cheesy roll or a pot noodle. not the best i know, but sometimes a small thing to eat can make all the difference in the world

For whatever reason, next time DD in - about three days later - veggie option at all meals. Someone somewhere, must have had a word.
