what does this actually mean our local paed said its a sign of poorly controlled asthma is this true?

my son had a chest xray in december and showed he had hyperinflated lungs he is 4 years old and hes asthma has never been controlled with medication.

does it just mean poorly controlled asthma or can it mean something else
