Hi Claire, welcome to the boards we are all here to support each other.

Its normal to be worried about your daughter in school, but can i suggest that you arrange a meeting with her teacher to explain your daughters symtoms and the signs of her asthma worsening and also what to do if this happens at school. Also make sure that her teacher knows how and when to give your daughter her medicines.

hope this helps and I hope your daughter enjoys her new school.

HI just wanted to say we're in the same boat. I'd suggest getting in touch with the school's Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator so you can set up a health care plan. We did that and it was so useful. The teacher is 100% supportive since then too. I'm also hoping my daughter will be better than last year but not counting my chickens so expecting high absenteeism. x

thanks for the advice...will def get in touch and ask about setting up some kind of plan for her..school seemed really supportive when we went to visit...so fingers crossed

Hi i felt the same when my now 8 year old started school up untill school age he was always in and out of hospital so was very anxious school seemed to agree with him lol and he donlt seem to have as many probs as i thought he would

i draw up a action plan with our asthma consultant/nurse and gave it to the first aider at the school and they also spoke to the school nurse (not that is much cop as they not based at the school)

i always stressed to them if at any time they were unsure of joe then they were to ring me immediately and i would attend school a couple of times they did and i was up there like a shot other times the teacher at the end of the day would give me a note to say how much inhaler etc he h ad been given

they also spoke to the class becos he got very embarrassed taking his inhaler in front of the rest of class but the kids weren't worried its when they older they ask more questions

just make sure u put everything in writting for the school then in theroy nothing should go wrong

the teacher should know as well as the first aider and i always made a point of saying something if they have a supply teacher in for a day or so

i really hope yr little one enjoys her school and u will worry like mad for a while but honestly that soon goes if the school does the things u want them to do some teachers are still not good with asthmatics but i always say its cos they never have to deal with child asthmatics in every day life but keep on at em and they end up good as they should all be
