Pilgrims School

Does anyone remember the Pilgrims School, and if it still exists. I remember watching a documentry about it years ago. It was a boarding school for children with severe or brittle asthma that was affecting their education and the school had nurses and a pharmacy where the children queued up for their inhalers

Hi Jass, I think the Pilgrims School has closed - I'm pretty sure it was run or at least set up by ICAN (Invalid children action nationwide). I've had connections with ICAN for work and seem to remember reading something about it in their history info - they do still run schools but not specifically for children with asthma. Maybe someone on here may even have attended?

It has closed, because we looked for it for my son when he was younger and really suffering. I think there are a couple of members here who went there.

If you Google it using ICAN or Seaford after Pilgrims School, they have a FB group and some online info written by past pupils.

I remember watching the same programme years and years ago and thinking how incredible the school was.

However,the Kick Asthma Holidays are doing a super job at carrying on this form of educational care.

Long may they continue.

hi and I was at pilgrims school seaford from 1960 to 1963, I went there from Meath school at Ottershaw , the whole environment did wonders for my asthma, which I developed from 18 months old . The headmaster then was Mr. D. Gooding with mr. Stonehouse the deputy and maths teacher. Great days .

The inhalers then in use were the bulb and plastic vial attached which squirted a liquid known as rybarvin .
