Hi. sam1981. Don't be. If you had a broken leg would you not use a crutch? Of course you would. That is what Diazepam are for, to get you over a bad patch. My opinion is that you should take them. In the short term they are NOT harmful. In the long term they can be addictive. But even this can be dealt with. Why suffer when help is at hand. 5mg. is not a heavy dose. (I have known some on 40mg.) and coming off them when you feel better, AND YOU WILL, is not too difficult. You are probably scared because of the things we hear about drugs. You will not become an addict!! So take them and let us know how you get on. Very best wishes and blessings. jonathan.

I have been on Valium for over 40 years, and can honestly say although they have found out now they are addictive, I never had any side effects rom them if taken properly, I take 5mgs 4 times a day and it has always helped me, , from Linden/

I have also been given 5mg diazepam and the past few days it has been a lifesaver!! It's there for those unbearable times hun, and really does take the edge off. I used it the past 3 days but then didn't need it at all today. Don't worry 5mg is nothing at all. Good luck :) x

Hello my dr gives me diazepam 5 mg it says on the label take when needed or 3 a day my anxiety tends to get worse as the day wears on 2 30/3 00 pm time through till late everyday there's is a connection with a trauma I suffered at this time although a life long sufferer with anxiety and panic the time connection is since I lost my wife to a massive heart attack around 5 pm but I try to avoid meds if poss but occasionally a diazepam give me some relief during this time so if care is taken and you understand that they can become addictive over long term use they can be helpful So you take care and use carefully all the best. Hi Sam most meds can give you side effects if you read the paper that comes with them they'r all fairly similar side effects I take 5 diff meds after I had my heart attack a beta blocker a blood pressure tab a statin aspirin and lanzoprazol which is basically to stop the others burning they'r way out of my stomach they all have similar side effects the humble aspirin can give bad stomach pains the beta blocker makes me tired the blood pressure tab makes me nauseous and gives me a cough which I told the dr about so he changed it to another one which when I read the paper with it told me a side effect was a cough the statin can give you muscle weakness and pains in the joints the lanzoprazol makes me nauseous and upsets my stomach the diazepam stops me bothering about them all so much when they combine and give me a hard time but to be honest they all give me simlar reactions so all in all the only one that doesn't give me to much bother is the diazepam I hope this helps if you think your having problems with your meds have a chat next time you see your dr there maybe different treatments that don't give you any problems You look after yourself take care. Mel

I have used both Diazepam and also Lorazepam (same group of drugs) and didn't suffer any really unpleasant side effects, especially not gastric ones. I am emetophobic and beleive me, if there were any gastric side-effects on me, I would not have gone near them ever again, such is my fear of nausea and vomiting. Nobody can guarantee that you won't have any side-efffects, but on 5mg you are probably quite safe. If you're very scared, why not cut them in half and just get 2.6mg to experiment? They put what i call a "fuzzy" edge on everything - you are still quite aware of what is happening, but you don't care half as much! A bit like when I've had a couple of glasses of wine! (Don't mix them with booze though!)

On the down-side, they are highly addictive, so don't be tempted to take them too often. I found that I eventually took them on too many occasions close together, and although I wasn't addicted, I was getting unpleasant after-effects, one of which was a feeling of depression and further panic. I would stress that this was only because I used them too often, and not everyone would have a bad reaction like that, especially not to an occasional dose. They helped me get to big and important events, like family weddings and funerals without feeling like I wanted to run away screaming cos of anxiety.

I think you are a little like me, I'm a full in self diagnosed hyoercondriac and will always find reason to panic. I take lorazepam daily @ 1mg each end of the day, apparently that's equivalent to 5mg diazepam in total (2.5mg+2.5mg) and yes.... It just about stops my panic BUT... Diazepam (which I have today and yesterday due to a trip away and forgetting my meds, I've loaned from my Mrs) and personally... I feel shit. I've had roughly the same amount of diazepam as its equal to my morning dose, I've nearly just murdered my wife for her trying to buy me clothes I didn't quite like, I'm locked in my room crying searching on Google #WHY!!! I think what you must realise is if you don't abuse (I'm an addict who used to abuse) you will be ok. 5mg is a little amount BUT could cause anger, it says it in the pamphlet. So may your tummy ache, it says it, again, in the pamphlet.... The thing I hope you realised is this : they can also help. That help, to me, is worth a chunder or 2 and I hope you bit the bullet.

God bless all in this forum.... I need you all x
