I have long suffered from what I now know is known as toilet phobia in the sense I avoid using public toilets and whenever other people are around. This has led me to feeling very uncomfortably whilst I wait for a time on my own to go to the toilet. I am too embarrassed to see a Dr. Is there anything I can do to beat this phobia because I cannot go on suffering like this?

Toilet phobia
Hi Cookiebear03 - just a thought as I once had a pal who experienced the same worry about using public loos. One way he got round it was to use the disabled loo instead. Single occupancy loo, often cleaner than the rest, more space and often a very good door lock and rarely did it ever coincide with any disabled person needing to use it.

hi there
i used to be a bit phobic about using public loos but got over it by realising that every human has to poo and wee! toilets are there for that purpose and if others are around whilst ur on the loo and ur making some noise then they will have to deal with it. of course if you have the runs, it can be very embaressing but people will just have to understand that we all get an upset tum from time to time. perhaps if your worried about the smell u could carry some air freshener around with u. hope this helps x
i have a total toilet phobia, especially with those metal ones or if i walk in a toilet and its blocked/over flowing i will litrally be screaming with fear. ive had this my whole life with no answers but i have found techniques to help me cope better like breathing excersices or if im really panicing tapping my wrist can help.
i used to be embarrased about it until i realised its not my fault and i cant be the only one with it
