hello I’m Jenny, I have had anxiety for years now made worse by IBS . My daughter and granddaughter frequently accuse me of just making excuses and sending quite horrible texts demanding an apology for not being able to attend whatever they plan. I have to turn my phone off as it’s never ending , I spent a fair bit getting an outfit for one such celebration but on the morning I just could not do it, no matter what I say I’m the big baddie .

I physically feel sick and dizzy at the thought of anything arranged , I just can’t do it for worry of not being able to live up to their expectations, being 71 and 73 respectively , after working all our lives I just want my hubby and I to be able to enjoy our life together with no expectations from other folk. Is that too much to ask . Sometimes feel I can’t go on .

It is definitely not too much to ask. I am sorry for what your daughter and granddaughter put you through. You shouldn't have to go through that. Just that situation on its own would cause anxiety. You already have enough you are going through. I hope that you at least have the support of your husband. I am glad you are here on this site to know that you are not alone. I know that you are doing the very best that you can. Please take care of yourself.

Thankyou for your reply, yes my husband supports me , the anxiety seems to get worse as you get older.

I have a similar problem with my sons. They also have IBS, but adopt the “one size fits all” attitude - ie, if they can cope, then so can I. As I have explained, when they are 40 years older, then they might have a different opinion, as I could cope much better too when I was younger.

I’m afraid I don’t have a solution to this, other than we simply get on with our lives as best we can and ignore the jibes we get from those who don’t understand; just a shame when it’s our own children!

Thanks for replying, would be nice if we could wave a magic wand , I just don’t understand why they are so dictating, there’s no way I would have spoken to my mum like they do to me.
