Hi All,

I’m a new member and thought I’d share my current situation to see if people have or had similar circumstances and just to chat.

Back in 2020 I suffered a panic attack from what was determined as social anxiety in the office. I’ve since been working from home but still suffer with everyday things and avoid what should be enjoyable events such as holidays.

I have put off getting help and pretty much self medicated with alcohol. With my wedding coming up I’ve decided to seek help to which this is the beginning of the road.

Has anyone been through something similar?

had issues with alcohol in the past it more or less ruled me everyday I think meeting my then girlfriend dragged me out of the hole I had a different outlook towards life and was looking ahead. then my mum was un well and then died set off a chain of events cost me my relationship she was probably right to let me go but looking back on it she done me a favour because I really couldn`t get any lower and slowly got back on track. seek support if your drinking too much believe me it`s not the answer. look at what you have a job soon to be wife but continue to self medicate you might have nothing but the bottle.

I had social anxiety and my suggestion is that you find a therapist that specifically treats it and work with them to learn new ways of thinking about yourself and skills to heal. For what ever reason you have formed beliefs about yourself and how people perceive you that aren't true. You may be prescribed medication, at least temporarily, to help you. If there isn't a therapist near you, there are online programs available. I did one from the socialanxietyinstitute.org although I would have preferred working directly with a therapist. You are also probably suffering from low-self-worth and self-compassion which contribute to social anxiety. You can find good info on youtube about healing it and there are books and programs available for it.
