Effexor

I have been on Effexor for over a year now. The past few months and maybe even further back I’ve had a pretty high heart rate continually. Walking around the house it is almost always over 110.

I have seen the cardiologist and have had a normal echo, normal holter monitor with no abnormal rhythms. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this side effect with Effexor? It is really starting to affect my daily life with shortness of breath etc.

Hi hayls 2001 I've never been on Effexor but understand that it cancause a high heart rate. I would contact your prescribing physician

to see if a change in meds is needed. :) xx

I don't have any experience with effexor either but think if it was affecting your heart rate it would have done it earlier not too long after starting the med. If you do stop taking it, make sure to do a slow taper off of it to allow your mind and body to adjust.

Hi Hayls, I'm not a physician, but that doesn't right?..you should contact them again, and address it..I used to be on Effexor/Venlafaxine is the generic name, and as a antidepressant it saved me through a very dark and challenging time in my life..everntually I got better and felt that I didn't need to be on it any longer, so with the Drs approval I titrated slowly, and came off it..big mistake..years later as I live with depression/mental illness, I went back on it, but it did not have the same effect, this is common with this class of drugs, not all, but some..I don't recall having any cardio side effects, and I just realized you've spoken with a specialist with no abnormalities on the test results? I wish I knew what to say, but keep monitoring your symtoms, and if they continue, contact your family Dr/GP..good luck

I have been on effexor XR on and off for 17 years. It has never effected my heart rate- but everyone is different. Could you just be too anxious? Walking around with a heart rate of 110 is nothing to worry about- you are moving. A normal resting heart rate is 70-100 ( without moving). If your resting heart rate is above 100 while relaxing, you might want to check it out ( unless you know you are feeling anxious while sitting- then it could go higher/ normal ).
