Has anyone taken flupentixol for anxiety? I am really struggling with severe anxiety and now depression and can’t find a med I can tolerate and so the psych has prescribed it and I’m already anxious! Any success stories? All meds seem to give me agitation and the need to fidget/move around constantly which is just as bad as the anxiety/depression plus I never seem to get an improvement in the latter x

I was prescribed these about 20 years ago to help me with anxiety, I found them very good, they did the job and I was able to cope better at that time. I didn't have any side effects and stayed on them for about 12 months. The ones I had were bright red sugar coated pills. I would certainly not hesitate to take again if needed. Hope this helps. x

Oh thank you very much for answering as it's not a drug most people have heard of! Did you try some other antidepressants and struggled with side effects, particularly agitation and restlessness/feeling like I constantly need to move around like me? I really really appreciate you taking the time to reply as I'm desperate to find something to help at this stage as it's been 19 months of torturous anxiety for me that then developed into depression and dissociation. ❤️

Hi Vicss, So long ago I can't remember what they were called but after taking only one dose my friend called the pharmacy because he'd noticed my eyes like saucers (he said) and I felt weird, was advised to stop them immediately. Flupintixol did the job with no ill effects for me. Years later I was prescribed Citalopram but I had side-effects from them too, a feeling of "not being myself" is the best I can describe it. I don't take anything now except for Rescue Remedy products and Kalms occasionally. CBT therapy worked wonders for me and I can recommend this, if you ever get offered it. Everyone has a different reaction to meds so what suits one may not suit another! Good luck Vicss. x

Funny you should say that because I am on citalopram 20mg at the minute and I have lots of side effects, particularly agitation and restlessness and feeling like I have to move all the time plus lots of twitching and I totally don't feel myself at all - the psych has recommended to couple it with flupentixol so I hope that helps and I don't get side effects and then i can just switch as citalopram is awful but she doesn't want me to come off yet! I don't take to SSRIs well as they all seem to do the same plus all other ADs so I'm hoping this may be different. A couple of years ago I took clomipramine and was well for 14 years and the doctor told me to stop as the 10mg dose I took had been stopped by the manufacturers - If only I'd halved the 25mg dose I wouldn't be in this mess! Lost 2 years of my life already and 2 jobs I absolutely loved, can't go out and have severe anxiety in an out of the house plus depression. It's pretty awful. Thank you - I'll take a chance. Love to you, really appreciate your time ❤️ Yes I did do CBT and swore by it as one of my coping strategies, including mindfulness, yoga, exercise, meditation but none of those touch the sides anymore unfortunately x

I'm sure everything will work out for you Vicss, may take a while but you seem quite clued up on your meds, and have your coping strategies too. Good luck my friend I'm wishing you well. x
