Anxiety And Histamine

Finally worked out why much of my anxiety/on edge feelings increased certain times of the year. There is a direct link between histamine and anxiety levels-check out on Google-lots of information. I'm 66 and take thyroid meds and always blamed this for my increasing anxiety. After much research-and having taken anti-histamines at key times-the anxiety went. Some symptoms can also be down to low oestrogen levels as oestrgen helps break down histamine, but if anyone has had a similar experience it would be great to hear from you-I wish I'd found this info years ago-don't reach for a diazepam/xanax-take an anti histamine if there is a seasonal allergy connection.,

Hi there celticlady. I’m with you on that.. I’ve also researched about histamine levels, as I’m in perimenopause and it’s an awful thing at times, brought on anxiety at high levels, I started to look up, why certain things I was eating was making it worse, but I cut out caffeine, spice, white rice bread etc, started eating lots of broccoli ( naturally lowers histamine levels) along with cutting out alcohol.. I can control much better, I to felt it lift more after an allergy tablet,. I also read that you can be allergic to your own hormones if the balance isn’t right! Glad you found a way.. I hope your doing ok!! Great you raised this.. as many people suffer, doctors don’t understand we have to work it out ourselves! Histamine levels are a main factor with Anxiety, cortisol raises making the levels unbalanced . Nice to hear from you. 🥰

Good to hear from you Lizzypink! I found that starflower oil supplements helped enormously with hormonal imbalance before and after menopause-also soy isoflavones which mimic oestrogen. Now I'm 64 I know that low oestrogen can have an effect as oestrogen helps to break down histamine levels in our bodies. Suddenly after menopause I have a pollen allergy-no coincidence. So many factors induce anxiety-life generally-and the way our brains are wired-an inflamed basal ganglia can induce this. Any anecdotal reports most welcome form any members of this group!

Hi-yes, lots of info online-not sure where you are but here in UK we have tree pollen and it is bad for me. Histamine can cause many anxiety issues, might be worth trying the sleep inducing variety. Some of your new meds could also be causing probs as blood pressure meds are notorious for side effects. Light headedness is a problem and we anxiety sufferers are prone to this anyway. Let me know how you get on with the antihistamines. Take Care.
