Anyone on here suffered from burnout? What were the symptoms and what did you do to get back to your normal self? How long did it take?

Hi Ben, if it's physical burnout it can take me a couple days. Hot baths, relaxing by

Meditation and Breathing. If it's mental burnout, that can take a little longer. Sometimes

4-5 days. Again I use my Meditation and Breathing. I get physically involved with

the house or projects. Going outside as well as watching funny videos on YouTube calm

my mind and it's thoughts.

What do you do for burnout?? :) xx

Thanks for replying.. I’ve never been burnt out before... I’m assuming it’s a burnout as I’m suffering from headaches and am tired all the time

It could be burn out Ben, but it's a good idea to have a check up by your doctor

if it lasts too long. Depending what's going on in your life at the moment, depression

could also be an issue. Headaches aren't fun I know. Best to get that under control.

Let us know what your doctor has to say. Some simple lab tests can get you the

answers you are looking for :) xx

Thanks for replying.. I had a headache all of term 1 (I’m deputy principal of a high school) went off work for a few weeks after I reacted badly to some prescription meds. During the time off work my headache disappeared.. as soon as I start thinking about work again my headache returned.. I’ve been off work again for a few weeks and the headaches have subsided.

Hi Ben, knowing what you do for a living kind of says it all. Stress/Muscular Contraction headaches are not only painful but can become a daily issue. The fact

that being off work seems to be the on/off switch for those headaches.

Because you reacted badly to prescription meds (where they for the headaches?)

I'd check with your doctor and let him know what is going on.

I lived many years with tension headaches and they can be wearing both physically

and emotionally. At least you know what gives you relief. Your doctor or therapist

may be able to give you some methods in reducing your stress levels when at work.

Please let me know what you plan to do in the next few weeks while you are off.

Feel better :) xx

Yes, but did not think of it from that perspective. Due to the changes going on in the world, people seem to be different. This affects me at a physical level, a sense of failure without provocation. My mind knows the truth but my feelings do not match what I know to be true.

Main difference is my burnout seems worse when I am NOT at work, the opposite when that sense of fatigue manifested. When I come home I feel dejected, like a failure but never at work.

In my country they give certificates to folks who only seem to care about the paper and have no history of the longevity of a career. There are no more gold watches for a job done well for years. We seem too disjointed with the reality of the longevity of the actual work. People get degrees on line in short order nowadays.

If this were occurring at work I wold have thought of it being burnout, but it seems more like compassion fatigue for me. Perhaps yours is different. Do you notice mainly when you drive home or at work? I think If I were at work where I was only working with new people, I might be severely discouraged.

I remember when new people who had no experience would be hired it felt disjointed until they were trained. Nowadays the training in certain areas seems to be missing a link or historical significance since the increased additions of technology unless you are in that field. But even in that field I could see that your longevity would be inspiring.

Sorry I think I am over complicating this. To clarify I feel more a burnout in society rather than for my work.

Anxiety does strange things ..... tension, tiredness and headaches are common. Not sleeping well is very common.

I figured out pretty quickly with my anxiety and the many physical manifestations it presented that I would pretty much live at the doctor's office. And, of course, they would gladly oblige me with test after test.

I got off that merry-go-round and pretty much chalk everything up to anxiety.

My brother had the same experience. He told me his new 'job' was going to the doctors regularly to find out nothing was wrong. He quit that straight away ..... and feels much better.

JOB is a huge trigger for anxiety and tension, anyway. You have a lot of responsibility I read ... and if you're a perfectionist, well that's a double whammy!

Who knows .... don't want to alarm you, but prescription drugs have caused a lot of misery and complications in people, too. Everyone thinks they're safe, but as you discovered .... it's not always the case.

My guess is you have a touch of anxiety and burnout. I've had tension headaches that come and go for years. A bit of rest ..... and fine tuning your priorities and you may be your old self, soon.
