Propranolol- Anxiety - Advice please

I started taking Propranolol just one week ago and they make me feel terrible... really anxious in the mornings until about 2pm, sicky, and exercise is non existent as I just feel so heavy and unable to run (which I’ve always loved)

I take this medication purely to help with work - presenting/ difficult meetings etc.

Questions;

1. If you take this medication, did you feel terrible at first and how long did it take to stop feeling this way? Should I persevere?

2. Does anyone take them for similar reasons and do they help? If so, how do they change how you feel when you’re about to present?

Many thanks in advance you lovely lot :)

mst medications will have effects lasting for 4-6 weeks maybe beyond after 2 month I wouldn`t continue.I took these years ago but probably never gave them a chance as I had to walk to work and got sweaty and dizzy.

Thanks Kenster, appreciate the advice. Maybe I should give them a fair chance then...

Propranolol is known as a beta blocker...which works by blocking the action of adrenalin on the heart, however the body has adrenalin receptors in other parts of the body like the stomach.This is why you can feel queasy when frightened, blood diverts from digestion to fuel muscles, thanks to adrenalin.When you interfere with this naturally derived process you will feel out of sorts.Make friends with your body learn to master relaxation, these are just feelings which have made you over aware...over alert.Use natural supplies of minerals and vitamins to restore equilibrium...they do work once you find the right combination for you.

Yes if you have to take these long enough you will eventually adapt (2 weeks)and adjust, i took propranolol 160 mg a day for about 2 years... some 40 years ago.They helped in the short term but in order to get my life back....i stopped using them...only popped the odd one ...if symptoms became unbearable...i never quite felt as calm as i should have, always a niggling uncertainty...eventually i had to learn how to live free from all medication...

Nowadays i just take magnesium...when i start to feel a little off...it makes me feel relaxed and calm.

Lysine is also very good at doing this too...its an amino acid...found in some types of food but available in supplement form.Very good for anxiety and stress related issues.Both magnesium and lysine are very safe and do not produce anything like the side effects of man made pharmaceuticals.

Anxious/stressed people use up more reserves of magnesium than calm relaxed people....they are easy to spot, always fidgeting moving unsettled, due to the lack of this relaxing mineral....so best wishes...hope this helps.

Hi Jomico, this was super helpful, thank you for taking the time to write to me, very much appreciated.

I think I’m looking for that miracle cure and become disheartened when the medication doesn’t work for me. It’s such a debilitating illness, and I just want the old me back...

I guess being new to this, I have a lot to learn, so thank you for sharing your wisdom. It sounds like you have a handle on it, and I hope one day I’ll find myself in your shoes.

Good luck with your onward journey, all the best ☺️ xx
