Does it take really that long to ever get better from benzo's withdrawal?

I saw so many ppl against medications, since antidepressants to benzo's and I agree, benzo's can be bad in a long therm but antidepressants actually helped me with my depression and when I went out of them I were fine. People put like even after weaning off klonopin for years, and being "healed" they have episodes that make them feel as bad as withdrawal again?! And then you can't have your nervous system able to tolerate stress anymore , everything seems worse than keep taking the med !!! It's horrifying to see all damage ppl say they suffer, seems like they want other people to not quit the medication cause it sounds like never being free of it actually . Like feeling bad for eating something or drinking something like a tea , it makes me depressed, since I was wanting to quit the med but I don't feel like I'll ever have a life again .

For me forums like benzobuddies a likewise take all my hopes away . Just like benzowarriors testimonials are all depressive cause makes you think once you took a benzo for long time , you are damned. My appointment with the psychiatrist is on Wednesday and I'm lost , sad , I don't know what to do with my life, afraid of damaging my brain forever 😭😭😭

Hi Tgirll Let me give you a positive note on benzo withdrawal. After being left on

Xanax for 30 years and it no longer worked, I was place on Ativan which didn't work at all.

I than decided, I had enough of feeling like I was just going through the motions and asked my psychiatrist to get me off all benzos. After 30 years, I was dependent on that small dose of 0.25mg, once a day. And yet...it took me 2 1/2 years to wean off completely (using the Dr. Heather Ashton Method). And another year plus to have my brain heal on it's own.

It's been over 7 years now and I have never relapsed into another panic/anxiety attack. My brain is functioning to the max. I have been feeling great as well as clear headed and energetic. I got myself back and it's an amazing feeling.

I use tools other than benzos in providing the peace and calm feeling which is now under my

control and not a drug. I use Meditation and Breathing several times a day, each and every

day. It's free, it's with me all the time and works better than popping a pill.

I hope this gives you some confidence in that having taken drugs does not mean a damaged brain or a life ruined. Good Luck with your appointment Wednesday. Your life has only just begun :) xx

Hang in there, this can be fixed.I went through two years of difficult withdrawal from Ativan, Librium, Valium.

I stupidly increased my Ativan meds up to 15 mg a day over 8 months back in the mid 1980's...then stopped cold turkey..To say i have been to hell and back trying to regain the ability to walk outside...travel on public transport...stay in queue..the list was endless...The one thing i wish i knew back then was why it took so long after you stop to get back any normalcy in your life...heres what i know now...if you take any medication...if you have a poor diet....if you rely on alcohol...if you have huge amount of stressors...they ALL deplete one essential mineral in the body...Magnesium.

When your body is able to get enough from food you feel fine...once you tip that balance...you become tense...uptight...anxious...you first start to notice you feel a little odd...unsure...yet cant pinpoint why...this is the first sign you are running low. Then you realise you are not able to relax like you used to.

If you are willing to spend a little money on this supplement and perservere for three days you will surprize yourself how much more you can relax and stay calmer.I use Magnesium Threonate because this type targets the brain which is after all the same place valium goes to deal with the whole thoughts and feelings that stem from being out of sorts. You will feel a little strange on the first day or two....this is normal...because the body switches back on enzymes that go dormant as you become depleted.hope this gives you hope for your future life finally free from the big A.

No matter how bad you feel...you will not die...you will just feel the unwanted effects of withdrawal...you can begin that journey.....gradually by slowly reducing the doses with good outside support...frim your doctor friends and family. It can be achieved.

i truely believe with magnesium supplementation....that road to recovery....is kinder and much quicker.
