Hi everyone. I got diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder in may and since then have gotten prescribed Hydroxyzine but I only take it when I am having an anxiety or panic attack. Recently my anxiety has been really bad, so I have been thinking at what point do I think about getting on daily meds?? Thanks :)

Hi :) I started taking meds every day when my anxiety got so bad, I could no longer perform basic tasks because my hands were always shaking, however, I wish I would've started sooner. You should definitely check-in with your psychiatrist. What worked for me was when my doctor prescribed me lighter antidepressants for every day and Xanax in case of emergency, just like you have your meds. Its a great way to stop yourself from taking stronger benzos all the time since the tolerance builds up quite easily. Maybe ask your doctor for some alternative to the meds you already have and definitely don't start taking what you already have every day before checking with them. I don't know these particular meds, but your psychiatrist could've had a good reason to prescribe them just for cases when its really necessary.
