Heart Anxiety

Hi all. So I’ve done the full 180 now with my heart anxiety. Before it would race I would panic and make it worse etc. Now, I have been cycling daily - 20miles / 30kilometres. Now when I wake up or have been laying down for a while I see my hr around the 50’s. It’s freaking me out now. Is 6months worth if exercise for a 29 year old with “perfect ecgs” enough to make the resting rate come down so significantly.

Hi sandy I would take that as a good thing myself as if you can control your breathing (your cycling has and would have improved your breathing control) then you can slow your heart rate down.

I would stop checking your heart rate and tell yourself cycling is helping. I’m the same with my heart had all the tests ecg scans the lot and can’t find a fault apart from eptopic beats and in regular heart beat.

I would say that’s a good thing

Do you have ectopic beats too? I have them but I also have a leaky valve. I was told palpitations are normal.

Yes have eptopic beats bad and a irregular heart beat! A lot of people have them and don’t effect them but others have them bad!

Leaky valve? Is that something that’s dangerous

I've been born with a leaky valve, it's basically just that one of the valves in the heart doesn't close properly and therefore the blood flows back in the heart at each heartbeat.

Never caused any issue for me, but eventually I will need a valve surgery...hopefully not for a long time.🤞

Yes, heard about these irregular beats, they cannot pinpoint why they happen but they are harmless.

Hi Sandy,

I have the same, I have a smartwatch that I use for sleep too and my heartrate during sleep is around the 50s...I think it is sometimes also that the watch cannot efficiently measure as the wrist lays flat...and I think for a person that trains so much this heartrate is fine...
