Son : My son has just turned 13 and when we... - Anxiety Support
Son
Hi Mum, does your son eat okay at home? Does he suffer from social anxiety?
Eating in a restaurant with other people around can bring up anxious thoughts
before he even gets his meal. I use to hate being seated at a table in the middle
of the restaurant. I never got sick but would be anxious of the thought of people
being all around me watching me eat. I found that if at a table, I would ask for one
in the corner so my back could be against the wall. Another thing that worked
is sitting in a booth, being the first one in.
I hope that you find the root of the problem. It's a shame that your son can't
enjoy a meal out with the family. Have you tried therapy for him? xx
Yeah he is fine at home just takes him a long time to eat and on holidays ifweeat round the pool he is OK it's just the restaurant part of it
He has always been a anxious child in every way but the eating part as only just started in the last 18 months or so and since the lock down due to covid he has become even worse
Hi...I'm certainly not a doctor but the fact that he can eat okay at home in a more relaxed
situation should prove that it is less likely to be a physical issue.
We can't support someone younger than 16, but I would suggest that you run this by
his Pediatrician. At his young age, this needs to be addressed. Many young people as well as those of any age, have experienced worse symptoms during the covid outbreak.
We're here for you. Please let us know what his doctor says. xx
