Sedatives for air travel.

Been living with anxiety and panic disorder for 4 years now. For a lifetime before my anxiety began I've always had a fear of flying. I haven't really done any traveling by air in a very long time.

I believe the last time I flew on a plane was 6 years ago. Due to upcoming circumstances in my life I may need to find myself on a plane. The problem is because of my disorder I'm incapable of even being able to sit in a movie theater for more than 2 hours because I begin to experience palpations/ uneasiness and the sweats.

My anxiety has done a phenomenal job in interfering with simple things like watching a movie. I've had to leave in the middle of shows because of it because my heart rate would be through the roof for an extended period of time and I'd be sweating like a mad man.

All this being said I'm certain I will not be able to survive a flight on an airplane. It's not like I can leave the plane in mid air. At least not without being detained by air Marshalls and handcuffed. Wouldn't want to be on the news for a crazy man trying to jump off a plane. So my question is are there any sedatives or tranquilizers that I can use to stay a sleep for an entire flight?

I did a little research and I see that sometimes antidepressants are prescribed for such situations. I don't medicate so I would rather not introduce any antidepressants into my person. I'm looking for something that'll instantly knock me out and keep me out for the duration of a flight. This and something that won't kill me.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or recommend anything from experience?

Hi

I have had panic attacks and anxiety for many years. All the symptoms you have felt I can relate to that. If you are scared of flying the Doctor can give you a pill for going out and returning. It’s not an antidepressant just calms and helps with the flight. Good Luck take care

Your doctor can prescribe medication for that trip. They usually prescribe a sedative from the benzodiazepine family.

Yes. They work very well for flying. I flew last summer and felt very relaxed. No issues.
