Hi everyone so I keep having panic attacks as I drift off to sleep. I wake gasping for air and have a lot of pressure in my chest. I'm afraid to fall back asleep. Bedtime has always been a hard time for me. Anyone else experience these? Also I was prescribed 60 mg of propranolol. It makes me feel extremely relaxed.. I should just be able to fall asleep??
I am 2.5 years clean and sober so its extremely scary to feel these effects from the med. I also am supposed to be taking 50-100 mg of trazodone at bedtime to be able to fall asleep. Can I take these two together??

Dear Ajrea, I've been taking Trazodone for sleep for 20 years! Ideally, you should be on the lowest dose, 50mg. There seems to be no added efficacy to raising the dose.
Not sure what your definition is of 'clean & sober' but Trazodone and ALL other antidepressants and anxiety meds are habit-forming. This means that, at some point down the road, you have to wean yourself off them slowly. For now, don't sweat it, get some rest!
Yes, you can take Trazodone with your beta-blocker. However, I'd start adding some nutrient supplements to the mix: Hi-potency B-complex with food in AM; CoEnzyme Q-10 100 mg + Magnesium glycinate or citrate half an hour before bed.
Just don't let any doc talk you into benzos like Xanax or Ativan for your sleep or panic. They're an addictive honey-trap. Steer clear.
