So a few days ago I woke with bad heartburn/reflux and ever since I’ve had this feeling in my throat that it’s hard to swallow. My voice is hoarse and my nose is a little congested. I’m freaking out because I’m worried my throat will close up. I also am not sure if it’s from the reflux or if I’m getting a cold etc. Has anyone felt something similar? For the record I can swallow, I’ve been eating normally but have less appetite. In the past trouble swallowing has been an anxiety symptom of mine so it’s also possible I’m thinking it’s worse than it is...

Anxious about throat
Hi.
I’m sorry for how you are feeling. That’s not nice 😩 it could be anxiety and when I’ve been really anxious I’ve had similar struggles, the problems is we are not drs and it’s always best to get things checked out, even if it’s for peace of mind...maybe your pharmacy could help if you explained the symptoms , here in U.K. they can be quite good at that sort of help and advice..and let you know if you need a visit to dr...
Sorry not sure what country you reside in..
Good wishes x
I felt this exact thing what you’re feeling but I also had trouble swallowing (still do ever since I can remember) your throat will not close up just drink some teas that will help with your throat. Your anxiety can cause your throat/neck to tighten up that’s why you’re feeling this if you’re sure it’s not from anything else massage your neck muscles and try not to think about it too much
Hi "Grudge",
You seem to fit right in with the latter part of this description of heartburn/ reflux problems from clevelandclinic.com:
The main symptoms are persistent heartburn and acid regurgitation. Some people have GERD without heartburn. Instead, they experience pain in the chest, hoarseness in the morning, or trouble swallowing. You may feel like you have food stuck in your throat or like you are choking or your throat is tight.
I also agree with your experience that these problems can be attributed to anxiety. Definitely agree! What happens when you slow your breathing down and/or distract yourself from your throat symptoms? Do these heartburn/reflux symptoms improve?
I recommend you use all of the "tricks" in your arsenal to combat anxiety and you'll feel better the next time you get these throat symptoms. Feel free to write me if you want to follow up on what I've said. Love, hugs, and blessings...
Yes, could be anxiety induced, BUT. If the symptoms you describe last longer than two weeks, it would probably be best to see a medical professional. Just to rule out other possibilities.
